The Greene County Rams softball team split last week’s games down the middle, winning two and losing two.
Last week featured four games for the Rams: a 6-4 win over South Hamilton, a 4-0 win over the Perry Jayettes, an 11-6 loss to Woodward-Granger, and a 6-1 loss to Grandview Christian. The Rams went 2-1 against Heart of Iowa Conference opponents last week.
Against South Hamilton, the Rams got consistent scoring by score one run in both the first and second innings, and then two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. South Hamilton tried to rally a comeback with four runs in the sixth inning, but came up short.
Kaycee Pittman led the team in hits with three, Payton Kokenge, Sara Morlan, Becca Anderson, and Bellah Johnson each had two hits, while Alivya Smith, Alaina Heard, and Violet Reedy each had one. Sara Morlan had two RBIs, and Payton Kokenge, Becca Anderson, and Violet Reedy each had one. Alaina Heard pitched the entire game, allowing three hits and four runs, striking out ten batters.
Next, the Rams faced the Perry Jayettes and were able to pitch a shutout. The Rams scored two runs in the second inning, and two runs in the fifth inning to secure the win.
Payton Kokenge led the team with two hits, while Kaycee Pittman, Sara Morlan, and Becca Anderson each had one. Sara Morlan led the team with two RBIs, while Makenna Ebersole, and Alivya Smith each had one. Alaina Heard had another great game from the pitcher’s circle, allowing two hits and no runs, striking out four batters.
The next game was a battle against the Woodward-Granger Hawks. The Rams faced a 7-1 deficit heading into the fifth inning, but rattled off five runs to make the game 7-6 heading into the sixth inning. The Hawks scored four more runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 11-6 which is how the game ended.
Alaina Heard led the team with three hits. Chanlyn Cunningham, Makenna Ebersole, Bellah Johnson, Sara Morlan, and Payton Kokenge each had one. Makenna Ebersole, and Bellah Johnson each had two RBIs, while Chanlyn Cunningham, and Alaina Heard each had one. Alaina Heard pitched the entire game, allowing nine hits and 11 runs, striking out five batters.
The last game of the week was against Grand View Christian. The Thunder had steady scoring all game long, and the game was 6-0 heading into the seventh inning. The Rams scored their lone run of the game in the seventh inning.
Becca Anderson led the team with two hits, while Kaycee Pittman, Sara Morlan, and Makenna Ebersole each had one. Alaina Heard allowed nine hits and six runs during the game.
This week is packed for the Rams as they are expected to play Grand View Christian on Tuesday, PCM on Wednesday, West Marshall on Thursday, and Nevada on Friday. The Rams will also play in a tournament on Saturday. This week’s Rams Softball Player of the Week is Kaycee Pittman. She tallied five hits across four games, and also racked up a total of four stolen bases during those games.
