Sheriff’s report – April 2025

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Wednesday, April 30: At 10:38 am a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident in the 1600 block of N Ave south of Jefferson. Phillip Sheridan struck a turkey with a 2015 Honda CRV, causing an estimated $1,000 damage to the vehicle. At 8:25 pm a deputy investigated a juvenile that was found to have a vape in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction.

At 8:45 pm Devin Holm-Morales was booked into the jail on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia (two counts), possession of a controlled substance (three counts), violating a no contact order (two counts), and domestic abuse assault*. At 9:25 am a deputy and Grand Junction Fire responded to a brush fire in the 1600 block of S Ave in Junction Township.

Tuesday, April 29: At 9:11 am the sheriff and a deputy investigated a hit and run accident in the 600 block of Hill St in Churdan. At 12:15 pm Eric Rosenow, 41, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of violation of probation. At 9:01 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident in the 2000 block of U Ave in Washington Township. Ignacia Diaz of Perry struck a deer with a 2015 Dodge Journey, causing an estimated $1,500 damage to the vehicle.

Monday, April 28: At 5:56 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near X Ave east of Grand Junction. Teesha Barton of Des Moines struck a deer while driving a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000. At 10:03 am Jason Sheldahl, 53, of Boone was booked into the jail on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance*. At 11:46 am Jason Morris, 42, of Rippey was booked into the jail on a charge of consuming alcohol in a public place*. At 2:52 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a vicious dog near S. 9th and W. Elizabeth Sts in Grand Junction. At 4:49 pm Angel Vaughan, 42, of Des Moines was booked into the jail on charges of eluding, unlawful possession of a prescription medication, and possession of a controlled substance*. At 8:03 pm a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident on 165th St near Brentwood Ave in Kendrick Township. Brooke Bonnette of Scranton lost control of a 2010 Ford F-150 and entered the ditch. The estimated damage to the vehicle is $1,000. At 8:10 pm Abel Lopez, 30, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of public intoxication. At 9:45 pm a deputy arrested Tiffany McCalley, 52, of Grand Junction and James Holmberg, 59, of Grand Junction for violation of probation*. Both of them were booked into the jail.

Sunday, April 27: At 4:01 am Mihles Exline, 33, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated*.  At 8:59 pm a deputy investigated suspicious activity on E. Main St and S. 13th St in Grand Junction.

Saturday, April 26: At 1:30 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction. At 9:44 pm a deputy investigated suspicious activity in the 1000 block of E. Railroad St in Grand Junction.

Friday, April 25: At 1:53 pm Kole Higgins, 30, of Grand Junction was booked into the jail on charges of driving while license barred and an out of county arrest warrant*. At 3:46 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an investigation of a stolen vehicle at Sparky’s. At 4:12 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 2000 block of L Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 8:21 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near S Ave west of Grand Junction. Joshua Bonilla of Fort Dodge struck a deer while driving a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. The estimated damage to the vehicle is $7,000.

Thursday, April 24: At 6:08 am deputies investigated a domestic assault in the 400 block of Harding St in Churdan. At 8:45 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass on Quaker Ave near 265th St in Grant Township. At 5:31 pm a deputy assisted with getting two horses back in their fence in the 1900 block of 130th St in Paton Township.

Wednesday, April 23: At 9:16 am a deputy investigated an accident on 310th St near D Ave in Willow Township. Donald Riedesel was operating a Cat 75c tractor with an implement. Riedesel went around a parked 20131 Chevy Silverado owned by Joshua Ross and struck the mirror of the truck with the implement.  Damage to the pickup truck is estimated at $500. At 10:16 am the sheriff and a deputy responded to X Ave near 120th St in Paton Township for a reported accident. No accident was found. At 7:09 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with responding to a domestic assault in the 400 block of N. Vine St in Jefferson.

Tuesday, April 22: At 12:24 pm the sheriff and deputies investigated a suspicious person in the 500 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 12:43 pm Michael Hochstetler, 47, homeless, was booked into the jail on an out-of-county warrant. At 11:58 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of sparks coming from a power line on N Ave near 130th St in Dawson Township.

Monday, April 21: At 6:57 am deputies investigated a fight in the 1000 block of E. Railroad St in Grand Junction. At 6:16 pm Beverly Hickcox, 72, of Des Moines was booked into the jail on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 8:37 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction.

Sunday, April 20: At 10:47 am Ashley Kuenster, 35, of Gilbert was booked into the jail for a violation of probation*. At 1:29 pm a deputy investigated an accident at Lincoln and State Sts in Scranton. A juvenile driving a 2006 Honda Accord failed to obey a stop sign on Lincoln St and struck a 2006 Kia Amanti driven by Bella Linberg, 19, of Jefferson. Both vehicles had an estimated $5,000 in damage. At 4:30 pm a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident on Hwy 4 near 290th St in Franklin Township. Sara Schwery of Jefferson lost control of a 2005 Buick LeSabre. The vehicle crossed the center line and entered the ditch. The vehicle is estimated to be totaled in the accident.

Saturday, April 19: At 10:09 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 200 block of Lawrence St in Dana. At 11:48 am a deputy, Ogden Fire, and Grand Junction Fire responded to a grass fire on Hwy 30 near W Ave east of Grand Junction.  At 3:53 pm a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident in the 2100 block of 295th St in Washington Township. Francis Riedell of Wall Lake was working a field with a tractor and implement and struck a telephone pole. The damage to the pole was estimated at $2,000. At 6:46 pm a deputy investigated a 911 hang up in the 500 block of Jefferson St in Scranton. At 7:27 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest in the 100 block of E. Washington St. Zachary Armstrong, 39, of Jefferson was arrested on charges of  assault with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct, interference with official acts, public intoxication, and harassment- first degree*. At 7:56 pm a deputy assisted with a dog running at large near 305th St and T Ave in Washington Township. At 8:53 pm a deputy investigated a violation of a no contact order in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 8:57 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal burning near 210th St and Neola Ave north of Jefferson.

Thursday, April 17: At 6:07 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass complaint in the 1000 block of 240th St in Grant Township. At 7:18 am a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping in the 1600 block of 170th St in Hardin Township. At 3:09 pm a deputy investigated a backing accident in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, April 16: At 3:49 pm a deputy investigated a scam in the 800 block of I Ave in Bristol Township.

Tuesday, April 15: At 11:32 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on 195th St near D Ave in Kendrick Township. At 4:08 pm a deputy assisted the Guthrie County sheriff’s office with serving a court order in the 300 block of Curry St in Bayard. At 9:08 pm James Poole, 45, of Coon Rapids was booked into the jail on charges of gambling- avoid set-off and fraudulent practices*.

Monday, April 14: At 7:56 am a deputy and Scranton Fire responded to a grass fire in the 2200 block of Eaton Ave in Greenbrier Township.

Sunday, April 13: At 1:25 pm a deputy and Grand Junction fire responded to an equipment trailer burning near 5th and Cartwright Sts in Rippey. The trailer was a total loss.

Saturday, April 12: At 8:20 am Chad Louk, 49, of Jefferson was booked into the jail for failure to appear*. At 2:46 pm Elaine Norgart, 57, of Pisgah was booked into the jail for failure to appear*. At 4:23 pm a deputy, Jefferson fire, Scranton fire, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a garage fire in the 1000 block of 215th St in Bristol Township. The cause is undetermined and the garage was a total loss.

Thursday, April 10: At 9:06 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass on 265th St and Quaker Ave in Franklin Township. At 5:13 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 700 block of Walnut St in Scranton. At 8:10 pm a deputy assisted with horses out on S Ave near 195th St in Hardin Township. At 8:51 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on S Ave near 170th St in Dawson Township.

Wednesday, April 9: At 6 am a deputy and Jefferson fire responded to a field fire on 305th St near L Ave in Greenbrier Township.

Tuesday, April 8: At 12:50 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of tampering with a juror at the Greene County courthouse. At 2:55 pm a deputy and the Jefferson fire department responded to a grass fire on 305th St near M Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 6:53 pm Conner Groves, 28, of Scranton was booked into the jail for a pre-trial release revocation*. At 7:49 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 700 block of Main St in Scranton. The property was located.

Monday, April 7: At 12:29 am a deputy checked on a reported fire in the 1900 block of L Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 12:56 am Michael Olson, 63, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of public intoxication*. At 9:39 am a deputy investigated suspicious activity in the 1000 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 12:29 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton. Joseph Charleston, 54, of Scranton was arrested on a charge of domestic abuse assault- third or subsequent offense*.

Sunday, April 6: At 2:58 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 100 block of E. Central St in Grand Junction.

Saturday, April 5: At 6:28 pm Kyle Whitehead, 41, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of harassment- second degree*.

Friday, April 4: At 5:37 pm a deputy assisted the Gowrie PD with locating a juvenile in the 2000 block of 190th St in Junction Township. At 8:36 pm Jacob Day, 35, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of operating while intoxicated, interference with official acts, and trespass*.

Thursday, April 3: At 3:54 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 700 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 6:55 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 100 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 4:17 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 800 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 5:59 pm Sharlene Gingery, 60, of Carroll was booked into the jail on a charge of driving while license barred*. At 6:39 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. Eric Emery of Denison struck a deer with a 2020 Ford Escape, causing an estimated $8,000 in damage to the vehicle.

Wednesday, April 2: At 3:36 am the sheriff and a deputy assisted with an arrest of a juvenile at Greene County Community Center in Jefferson. At 6:17 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 100 block of W. Percival St in Rippey. At 8:19 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 800 block of Head St in Churdan. At 9:17 pm a deputy and a Jefferson police officer responded to a report of something floating in the river at Henderson Park. A plastic ball was found.

Tuesday, April 1: At 4:52 am a deputy, Greene County Ambulance, and Grand Junction Fire and Resue responded to a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 30 at W Ave east of Grand Junction. Candido Grijalva of Perry was northbound on W Ave driving a 2008 Honda CRV. Grijalva failed to yield the right of way and pulled out in front of Justin Geisler of Scranton, who was eastbound on Hwy 30 driving 2022 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Both drivers and one passenger were transported by ambulance to Greene County Medical Center for injuries. Grijalva was cited for failure to yield the right of way and failure to have insurance. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident. At 10:47 am a deputy investigated a scam in the 600 block of 110th St in Cedar Township. At 8:10 pm Zachary Smith, 23, of Lake City was booked into the jail on charges of domestic abuse assault and simulated public intoxication*. At 8:15 pm Michelle Cook, 25, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance- second offense*.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
