Greene County CSD teachers, board approve new contract with $2K-plus raises for all teachers

Greene County Community Schools teachers will all receive a salary increase of at least $2,000 for the 2025-26 school year.

The Greene County Schools board ratified a negotiated agreement with the Greene County Education Association at a special meeting March 26.

The salary increases for 33 of the district’s teachers are required by state law. Teachers who are currently at the $47,500 annual salary mandated by the state will move up to the new state minimum of $50,000. The increase for the 23 teachers affected totals $57,500.

Teachers with 12 or more years of teaching experience at the end of this school who are currently being paid $60,000 annually, per state law, will move up to the new state required salary of $62,000. Ten teachers will receive raises based on that, for a total increase of $20,000 for the district.

All other teachers will be re-aligned to the updated salary schedule and moved up two steps. That represents a $2,058 increase for 66 teachers, for a total increased cost to the district of $135,828.

According to district superintendent Brett Abbotts, the average increase in annual salary is $2,186, with the increase adding $213,328 for the Fiscal Year 2026 budget. Including the increase for the district’s share of FICA and IPERS, the entire package cost is $277,777.

Three board members voted to ratify the negotiated contract. Tim Riphagen, Cindi Daubendiek and Michelle Fields voted on the matter. Board member Connie Boyd abstained as she has relatives who teach in the district. Bonnie Silbaugh was absent. At a special session of the board held prior to the meeting concerning the negotiated agreement, the board set a public hearing on the 2025-26 certified budget for Wednesday, April 16, at 4:30 pm in the district conference room at 101 Ram Dr in Jefferson.
