In Greene County district court Aristides Iban DePazpaz, 44, of Perry was sentenced March 19 to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for one year. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must complete all recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation at his own expense, and he must complete a community college drinking driver’s course. DePazpaz was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Lonnie Joe Walker Jr, 47, of Carroll was sentenced to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of child endangerment. He was given credit for time served with the remainder of the sentence suspended. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. On a charge of operating while intoxicated, Walker was sentenced to one year in jail, with credit for time served and all but seven days suspended. He was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for one year. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation at his own expense, and he must complete a community college drinking driver’s course. Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Obinna Louis Nwobodo, 42, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault impeding blood/air flow and child endangerment- two counts; and Richard Charles Burkhardt, 55, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated.
