Tee times are coming for Greene County golf

Greene County Rams golfers on both the boys’ and girls’ squads will be hitting the tee boxes soon.

While it may not seem like it since the weather keeps going back and forth between hot and cold, golf season is nearly here for the Greene County Rams.

For the Ram girls, their season will officially begin April 7 at The Hill Golf Course when they host Carroll.

For the girls, they will be without three seniors from last year in Graci Cooklin, Hallie Monthei and Skylar Warnke. Monthei had the team’s lowest on nine holes with 46; she was also tied with Maya Telleen.

The boys will kick off their season at the Saydel Boys Golf Invitational on April 4 at Woodland Hills Golf Course.  The field will include Earlham, Gilbert, Newton, Oskaloosa, Pella, Pella Christian, Saydel and West Marshall.

The boys’ team had four seniors last year in Nathan Behne, Dylan Cullum, Jack Hansen and Gavin Trecker. Hansen had the nine-hole low on the team with a 34 and Behne was just behind him with a 39, tied with Nathan Towers. Hansen also had the team’s 18-hole low with a 75 and Behne was again just behind him with an 81. The good part is that the season is still a little ways away for both squads so they still have time to get in more practice ahead of the official kickoff and it means more time for Mother Nature to give the golfers some more favorable conditions to play in because no one likes to play golf in the rain or when it’s cold.
