The outdoor portion of the track and field season officially began this week for the Greene County Rams girls track and field team.
The Ram girls already attended two meets early this year in the A.D. Dickinson Relays and the IATC Indoor Championships. Those two early season meets are a great way for the team to see where they stack up at competition speed and continue working on their form.
Looking at this year’s roster, there are five seniors; Hailey Carman, Emma Ewalt, Payton Kokenge, Daniele Madsen and Sadie Shannon. These athletes will bring experience and leadership to the track this year that will play a significant role in the team this season.
While there are only a few seniors on the team there is a huge freshman class consisting of 13 new faces on the team this year. There is also eight sophomores and eight juniors. The youth on the squad is encouraging for the future years of the program as these athletes will gain valuable experience this season. Officially, the outdoor track season began this week as the Rams were expected to attend the Simpson Co-Ed High School Classic on Tuesday at Bill Buxton Stadium at Simpson College in Indianola.
