Trevon Keely and the Paton-Churdan Rockets retook the track this week as the track and field season continues.
Keely is already off to an outstanding start to his year as he took first place in the high jump at the IATC Indoor Championships with a jump of 6’7”, which was also a school record for Paton-Churdan. His jump was also good enough to qualify him for the Drake Relays in May.
While Keely has started strong to begin this year, the roster for the Rockets is a talented one. They have a good mix of youth and as the team has eight freshmen in Jared Dawson, Joel Duckett, Nathaniel Keyes, Peyton Minnehan, Rhys Palmer, Damen Rice, Brayden Theulen and Patrik Wolterman. They will gain valuable experience this season.
The team does have a few upperclassmen as there are two juniors in Phoenix Hartman and Logan Summers who will provide leadership this year. The sophomores are Keely and Isaac Keyes.
The best part of this early start is that Paton-Churdan is already locked for representation at the Drake Relays with Keely and there could be even more qualifiers before the deadline to submit results for consideration for the relays. This week, Keely and the Rockets were expected to head to Buena Vista University for the BVU High School Elite Meet on Monday and will then have the Audubon boys Early Bird meet on April 1.
