DuWayne A. Kinne, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025, in Jefferson, at the age of 81. Born on June 8, 1943, in Fort Dodge, the son of Clarence and Margaret (Christopher) Kinne, DuWayne’s life was marked by his kindness, dedication, and hard work ethic, which guided him in all his endeavors.
A proud graduate of Paton High School in 1961, DuWayne furthered his education at Buena Vista University, where he graduated in 1966.
He embarked on a career in education, passionately teaching and coaching at Willow Community School for five years. DuWayne found love and companionship in Vicky Ega, and they were united in marriage on Aug. 15, 1970, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, a foundation that would support their growing family.
In 1973, DuWayne transitioned to a successful career as a field rep for Square Deal Insurance, dedicating 34 years to the company before retiring in 2007. Never one to remain idle, he continued to work part-time at Brown Funeral Home until 2022.
DuWayne’s commitment to his community was evident through his active involvement at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson. He served as both vice chairman and chairman, usher and elder, contributing to the life of the church.
Family was the heart of DuWayne’s world. He is survived by his four devoted children: Kristi (Jonathan) Hayes of Loveland, OH; Kyle (Amanda) Kinne of Jefferson; Samantha (Brian) McClain of Fort Dodge; and Reed (Megan) Kinne of Hiawatha. His love and legacy continue through his grandchildren Jaxson, Jillian, Jewett III, and Jonah Hayes, Kadrick, Kamden, and Kylie Kinne, Mya, Dominic, M. Gavin, Victoria, and Maria McClain, and Tenley, and Kypten Kinne. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart, and he took immense pride in their every achievement and milestone. DuWayne was also a supportive brother to his sisters Ramona Kinne and Janice (Darrell) Hawthorne, and a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews.
DuWayne was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vicky Kinne, and infant grandson Roman McClain.
An avid sports enthusiast, DuWayne relished the opportunity to watch his children and grandchildren play in various sporting events. He was their biggest fan and kept a running log of all their stats.
DuWayne’s life was a testament to the values he held dear—kindness, dedication, and a strong work ethic. These qualities were not only the words that best describe him but also the principles by which he lived. He served many other farmers during planting and harvest as well and countless neighbors shoveling driveways and cleaning up yards.
DuWayne was a deeply cherished person, with a life rich in family, sports, and the simple joys of card games and farming. His love for life and dedication to those around him will undoubtedly echo through the generations, especially with his 14 grandchildren who will carry his legacy forward. His impact on others, big and small, will continue to shine bright.
