Following successful stage productions by Greene County High School and Greene County Middle School students, the Community Players of Greene County is next in line with the comedy “Sylvia” by A.R. Gurney.
Described as “a smart, silly, sophisticated and occasionally salty comedy,” empty-nester Greg finds a dog, Sylvia, in the park and brings her home. His wife Kate is not as fond of Sylvia as her husband is and wants the dog gone. As the story evolves, Gurney explores humans’ need to connect with others, particularly when they’re at crossroads in life. The fact that Sylvia is played by an attractive woman who adores Greg adds to the humor.
Josh Tuel is playing the role of Greg, Trisha Bauer is his wife Kate, and Alyssa Sparks is the too-lovable Sylvia. Ashley Elliott plays the roles of Tom, Phyllis and Lester. Director is Ash Elliott, with Clay Ross as technical director.
Performances will be Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5, at 7 pm, and Sunday, April 6 at 2 pm in the Greene County High School auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and will be available at the door.
Additionally, Tim Pound of Jefferson will be named an honorary lifetime board member of the Community Players of Greene County during the intermission.
“Sylvia” is performed with permission from Broadway Licensing LLC.
Also on Saturday, April 5, the Community Players are hosting a live poetry reading by Greene County poets at the Greene County Historical Museum at 2 pm. Local poets will read their original work. All poets are welcome to read; there is no charge. The event is a joint production with the Greene County Historical Society in celebration of National Poetry Month.
