Sheriff’s report

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Tuesday, Feb. 25: At 8:20 am a deputy and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle accident on Hwy 4 near 140th St. A juvenile was northbound on Hwy 4 and lost control of their vehicle on the slick roadway while attempting to pass a semi. The 2004 Ford Ranger rolled in the ditch and came to rest in a field. The driver was not transported but was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000. At 2:58 pm Shanntell Tiernan, 24, of Fort Dodge was booked into the jail on a charge of theft- first degree*.  At 3:38 pm a deputy assisted a person stuck in the mud with their walker in the 1400 block of 257th St in Grant Township.

Monday, Feb. 24: At 9:41 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 900 block of Irving St in Scranton. At 12:19 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of S. Wise St in Paton. At 12:30 pm a deputy investigated a possible scam in the 800 block of Jordan Ave in Bristol Township.

Saturday, Feb. 22: At 4:02 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass complaint in the 900 block of Irving St in Scranton. At 7:02 pm a deputy picked up a dog that was running at large in the 400 block of Bell St in Churdan.

Friday, Feb. 21: At 9:48 pm Neal Schoon, 61, of Bayard was booked into the jail on a charge of violation of a no contact order*.

Thursday, Feb. 20: At 3:22 pm Craig Arthur, 47, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of burglary- second degree, unauthorized use of credit card, and theft- fifth degree*.  

Wednesday, Feb. 19: At 9:42 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 500 block of State St Scranton. At 1:40 pm the sheriff and a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD in responding to a complaint of theft in the 1200 block of N. Elm St.  At 2:33 pm the sheriff arrested Robert Hadley, 37, of Jefferson on an arrest warrant for indecent exposure*. At 4:56 pm a deputy located a vehicle in Churdan that was involved in a theft at Fareway. Earnest Cobbs, 45, of Texas was arrested for theft- first degree and theft- fifth degree*.

Tuesday, Feb. 18: At 1:54 am a deputy assisted a motorist who was stuck in the 700 block of Jefferson St in Scranton. At 3:28 am a deputy investigated a complaint of burning on E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 8:55 am a deputy investigated a complaint of burning in the 700 block of S. 14th St in Grand Junction. At 6:18 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 500 block of Jay St in Churdan. One dog was caught and taken to PAWS. At 10:53 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 600 block of Jay St in Churdan. Two dogs were picked up and taken to PAWS.

Monday, Feb. 17: At 9:53 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 2200 block of M Ave in Greenbrier Township.

Sunday, Feb. 16: At 3:35 pm a deputy assisted a motorist in the ditch in the 1700 block of W Ave in Junction Township.

Saturday, Feb. 15: At 12:13 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief complaint in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. Between 6:54 and 11:48 am deputies assisted five motorists at various locations, including three in the ditch.

Friday, Feb. 14: At 2:08 pm a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 4 and 150th St in Dawson Township. Christopher Gardner, 25, of Farnhamville was southbound on N Avenue driving a 2003 Honda Civic when a vehicle in front of him stopped. Gardner could not stop and rear ended a minivan. Gardner continued into the ditch. The other driver left the scene. Damage to Gardner’s vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

Thursday, Feb. 13: At 4:12 pm a deputy investigated a hit and run accident in the 600 block of Irving St in Scranton. At 7:23 pm a deputy investigated a theft of a vehicle in the 400 block of Dudley St in Churdan. The vehicle was located in Grundy County. Charges are pending.

Wednesday, Feb. 12: At 8:58 am the sheriff, a deputy, and Grand Junction Fire and Rescue responded to a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 30 and U Ave at Grand Junction. Cole Wenger of Dedham was eastbound on Hwy 30 driving a 2019 Kenworth semi tractor with a 2021 Brenner tanker loaded with soybean oil. Jeffrey Gorman of Ogden was southbound on U Ave driving a 2012 International snowplow owned by the Iowa Department of Transportation. Gorman failed to yield the right of way and struck the rear axles of the semi and tanker. The semi and tanker struck the railroad crossing arms and then rolled onto its side in the south ditch. Damage to the semi tractor was estimated at $150,000. Damage to the snowplow was estimated at $2,000. Damage to the railroad crossing was estimated at $50,000, and damage to the guardrail was estimated at $2,500. Gorman was cited for failure to yield right of way. There were no injuries. Nobody was injured in the accident.

Tuesday, Feb. 11: At 12:01 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping in the 400 block of 2nd St in Rippey.

Monday, Feb. 10: At 7:15 am the sheriff, a deputy, Churdan Fire and Rescue, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on 110th St near N Ave in Dawson Township. Larena Thede of Churdan lost control of a 2004 Honda Accord and rolled several times in the south ditch, totaling the vehicle. The driver was transported by Greene County Ambulance to Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge with injuries. At 9:56 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 1200 block of 230th St in Jackson Township.

Sunday, Feb. 9: At 8:55 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Hwy 30 near S Ave west of Grand Junction. At 2:31 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 2200 block of M Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 10:17 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near J Ave west pf Jefferson. William Hine of Glidden struck a deer with a 2024 F-150, causing an estimated $4,000 dollars in damage to the vehicle.

Friday, Feb. 7: At 6:20 pm Michael Olson, 63, of Jefferson was booked into the jail for on a charge of trespass- third offense*.

Thursday, Feb. 6: At 3:12 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief  in the 500 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 4:55 pm Neal Schoon, 61, of Bayard was booked into the jail on a charge of harassment- third degree*.

Wednesday, Feb. 5: At 8:44 am a deputy arrested Elaine Norgart of Pisgah on  warrants for willful injury causing bodily injury and assault with a dangerous weapon*. At 1:42 pm Shelly Esquer, 61, of Fort Dodge was booked into the jail awaiting to be transported to prison. At 5:15 pm a deputy investigated a car in the ditch on U Ave near 290th St in Washington Township. A Juvenile lost control of 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe. The estimated damage to the Tahoe is $4,000. A citation for no insurance was issued. At 7:46 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 200 block of S. 19th St in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, Feb. 4: At 8:31 am Kolbe Hunter, 24, of Scranton was booked into the jail on charges of assault while displaying a weapon on persons in a certain occupation, willful injury, and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon*. At 11:25 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 700 block of Madison St in Scranton.

Monday, Feb. 3: At 11:33 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief complaint in the 2100 block of Terrace Ave in Washington Township. At 5:20 pm Danica Goff-Hueser, 18, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of disorderly conduct and assault causing bodily injury*. At 7:07 pm a deputy checked the welfare of a transient near Hwy 4 Avenue and 330th St at the south county line. Taylor Grobove, 31, of Minnesota wanted a ride north. When the deputy let Grobove out the car the deputy was attacked. Grobove was arrested for assault on a peace officer with intent, disarming a peace officer, and assault while participating in a felony*. At 9:38 pm the sheriff investigated a theft in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction.

Sunday, Feb. 2: At 10:47 am deputies and the Jefferson police department arrested Luis Mischke, 30, of Des Moines on an arrest warrant for failure to comply with the sex offender registry*. At 1:43 pm Hayden Fister, 19, of Des Moines was booked into the jail on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 3:49 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a short pursuit in Jefferson. At 3:59 pm a deputy arrested Kenny Millard, 58, of Grand Junction on an arrest warrant for theft- fifth degree*.  

Saturday, Feb. 1: At 9:02 am a deputy investigated an animal bite in the 2000 block of J Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 4:25 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1900 block of L Ave in Greenbrier Township.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
