Robert Hurley will be at the Grand Junction public library Monday, Feb. 24, at 7 pm to discuss his book, 10-31 Crime in Progress.
Hurley, a Jefferson resident of 44 years, is a retired Iowa State Trooper. A Dubuque native, he served in the Air Force in Japan as a security police officer. Returning to the United States, he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at the University of Nebraska and worked on the police force at LaVista, NE. Hurley returned to Iowa and joined the Iowa State Patrol, serving from 1979 to 2005.
Throughout his career in law enforcement, he kept a journal of his experiences.
Hurley explains that 10-31 Crime in Progress “is a ride along with me as I introduce you to many interesting people, dangerous situations, and some funny things that happen along the way. I wanted to positively impact people’s lives. I especially enjoyed working with school students in the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program and helping RAGBRAI bike rides across Iowa.
“Proud to preserve and protect, I tell how my wife Kristie and I supported each other and found the balance between two demanding careers and the responsibilities and joys of family life,” says Hurley.
Hurley’s presentation is open to the public at no charge. For further information, contact the Grand Junction public library at 515-738-2506 or check the library’s Facebook page, Grand Junction IA Public Library–GJPL.
