The Greene County Rams girls’ basketball team recently finished their regular season schedule and showed improvement as the season progressed.

Last week featured the final two regular season games of the year for the Rams girls, and they ended up with a 40-26 loss to Southeast Valley Feb. 10 and a 57-21 loss to South Hamilton Feb. 11. These losses dropped the Rams’ regular season record to 0-22 overall and 0-16 in Heart of Iowa Conference play.

Against Southeast Valley, the Rams played inspired basketball and came close to getting their first win of the year. Shooting played a role in the loss as they shot just 18.4 percent from the floor but were monsters on the glass, getting 41 rebounds.

Makenna Ebersole continued her strong performances, getting another double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Her future with the Rams program continues to burn bright. Sarah Morlan had seven points, and Autumn Barrett had two. Barrett and Natalie Wright were tied for second on the team in rebounds with five apiece.

In the last regular season tilt against the South Hamilton Hawks, the Rams struggled to get things going on offense, scoring single-digit point totals in each quarter, but got after South Hamilton’s shooters, as evidenced by their ten blocks at the end of the game. Blocks are an area the Rams have shown promise this year  as Ebersole is top 20 in blocks per game in the entire state this season at 3.3 per contest.

The Rams were led in scoring by Ebersole, who had 17 points, and Wright and Leah McCormick had two apiece. Ebersole led the team in rebounds with five, and Faith Jaimes-Diaz, Barrett, and McCormick had one apiece. As for blocks, Ebersole almost had herself another double-double as she had a whopping nine blocks, and Rylee Mowrer collected the team’s other block.

The Rams were initially sheduled to play their first postseason game against Cherokee Washington last week, but due to poor weather conditions, that game was postponed to be played this week. These teams have only played once since 2024, with the Braves earning a 75-29 win in 2024.

The Rams were to play their first postseason game of the year against the 18-3 Cherokee Washington on Monday at Cherokee Washington High School in Class 3A Region 5 action. The game was postponed.
