One Greene County wrestler recently reached a significant milestone in his high school career.
The Greene County Rams take wrestling seriously, very seriously. Not only do they consistently have a great program, but year after year, they send wrestlers who perform well to the state tournament, and then they often go on to wrestle at big college programs around the country.
One current senior for the Rams, Brent Dennhardt, has taken wrestling very seriously and recently hit his 100th win to showcase all the hard work he has put in over the years. Throughout his career, Dennhardt has been one of the best Rams wrestlers in school history, even while battling more than just his opponent on the mats.
“Brent has faced many setbacks in his high school career while missing his whole freshman year recovering from multiple injuries, and this season he has faced significant injury and illness causing some setbacks, but he continues to persevere and perform at a high level for his whole career,” head coach Kirk Davis said.
A lot can be discovered about someone by what others say about you. In this case, Dennhardt is viewed as a great teammate who helps those around him while trying to make himself better.
“He helps fellow teammates and is looked up to as a leader. I’m blessed and honored to be one of his coaches over his many years of wrestling, and we are working hard to help him achieve his final goals,” Davis added.
Dennhardt wrapped up his regular season career this week as the Rams were expected to welcome Woodward-Granger, Webster City, and AGWSR to the mats in Jefferson on Tuesday. Then the Rams have the Class 2A District #7 wrestling meet they will attend in Humboldt on Feb. 15, beginning at 10 am, including Perry, Southeast Valley, North Polk, Gilbert, Eagle Grove, Humboldt, and West Marshall. The Rams will look to wrestle well and qualify wrestlers for the state tournament, which will take place from Feb. 19-22 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
