In Greene County district court Shelly Marie Esquer, 61, of Fort Dodge was sentenced Feb. 5 to two 5-year prison terms after a jury found her guilty Dec. 10 of passing a winning wager to another person and fraudulent practices- second degree. The prison terms are concurrent. Esquer was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge on each charge; the fines and surcharges were suspended. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Mark Edward Dugan II, 45, of Des Moines was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense, amended from OWI- third offense. He was fined $1,875 with a $281.25 surcharge. In the same case, Dugan was charged with possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense and eluding- second or subsequent offense. He was sentenced to five years in prison on the drug charge and two years in prison on the eluding charge, with those terms concurrent; those sentences were suspended. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge on the drug charge and $855 with a $128.25 on the eluding charge; the fines and surcharges were suspended. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Angela Michele Valdivia, 61, of Ames was granted a deferred judgment after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. She was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommendations. She must pay a $430 civil penalty and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Jeremy Ernest Andrews, 36, of Scranton was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay an amount not to exceed $400 for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Persons pleaded not guilty to charges as follows: Valeria L. Beaston, 54, of Ames, gambling- avoid set off; Cheyenne Selena Vasquez, 27, of Ankeny, operating while intoxicated; Audrie Leiann Lawrence, 24, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense; and Marcus Edward Hildebrand, 36, of Guthrie Center, possession of methamphetamine. Trial dates were set for April 8 in every case.
Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Elaine M. Norgart, 57, of Pisgah, is charged with assault while display dangerous weapon and willful injury causing bodily injury. The warrant was issued Dec. 16 and served Feb. 5.
