The Greene County Rams girls basketball team faced two Heart of Iowa Conference opponents last week.
The Rams welcomed the Nevada Cubs to Jefferson in their first game of last week and lost fell by a final score of 73-20. The Rams then traveled to Roland-Story High School to face the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union-ranked Norsemen and fell 82-13.
Against Nevada, the lead ballooned in the first quarter as the Rams struggled to get things going and went into the second quarter down 28-0. The Rams then scored eight points in the second quarter, six in the third and eight in the fourth.
Makenna Ebersole led the Rams in scoring with 10 points, Kaycee Pittman scored with six points and Sara Morlan had the other four points. Ebersole led the team in rebounds with 10, giving her a double-double, and Faith Jaimes-Diaz was second on the team with four. Morlan and Ebersole were tied for the most blocks on the team with four apiece.
In their game against Roland-Story, the Rams struggled with turnovers as they had 27, and they struggled to shoot the ball, as they went 3 for 30 from the field for just a 10 percent field goal percentage.
Morlan led the Rams in scoring with five points, Ebersole had four and Pittman had two. Ebersole led the team in rebounds with eight, Jaimes-Diaz had three, Jennifer Robbins had two and Natalie Wright, Leah McCormick, Pittman and Autumn Barrett all had one rebound apiece.
The Rams have just a few games left on the calendar this year for the regular season as they were expected to face Saydel on Tuesday and West Marshall on Friday. The Rams will close out the regular season against Southeast Valley on Feb. 10 and South Hamilton on Feb. 11.
Throughout these remaining regular season games on the calendar the Rams girls will look for their first win of the season and the first win since Feb. 2, 2024 which was a 51-46 win over Saydel.
