Richards retiring as Bell Tower tour coordinator

Board is hiring part-time positions

The Bell Tower Community Foundation board has appreciated its dedicated Tower tour coordinator Pat Richards since 2014. During her tenure, Pat worked to expand group and bus tours to the community and reached out to many visitors to experience the Mahanay Bell Tower. Richards and the staff she hired and trained are most likely the first impressions of Jefferson. They make recommendations to visitors on activities, food and shopping around the entire community. Recent highlights for Richards were the Mahanay Bell Tower receiving the Rural Iowa Attraction in 2021 from Travel Iowa and the hospitality training through Iowa State Extension.

Richards is stepping down as the Tower tour and staff coordinator but will continue to work as a tour guide.

The Foundation has divided Richard’s duties into two part-time positions, the finance and social media coordinator and the Tower staff and tour coordinator. Applications for both positions can be found on the MahanayBellTower.org website under Join Our Team. Applications are due Feb. 14 with positions starting in March.

The Bell Tower Community Foundation board oversees the staff management, marketing and enhancements made to the Mahanay Bell Tower. “Pat Richards has been instrumental in so many positive changes at the Tower and is looked upon as a true ambassador for Jefferson and Greene County. Her work has been so appreciated and the Foundation board is thrilled that she will continue as a tour guide,” a spokesperson said.
