This past week of matchups for the Greene County Rams girls’ basketball team featured one powerhouse.
The Rams girls had two matchups last week, one against the Madrid Tigers Jan. 20, where they fell by a score of 58-35, and another against the high-powered and ranked PCM Mustangs Jan. 24, where they lost 68-14.
In their game against Madrid, two Rams girls came away with double-digit points: Makenna Ebersole with 11 points and Sara Morlan with 13 points. Ebersole netted another double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds. Jennifer Robbins was tied with Faith Jaimes-Diaz, the team’s second-leading rebounder, with six apiece, and Morlan had four.
Overall, the team shot less than 30 percent from the field, and with 20 turnovers, their offensive possessions that ended with points were limited. The team did shoot exceptionally well from the free throw line, going 11 for 13 from the charity stripe.
In their game against PCM, not a lot went their way. The Rams could only score one point in two of the four quarters and scored six each in the other two. The Rams had 28 turnovers and shot less than 20 percent from the field as a team.
As for scoring, Ebersole led the way with 10 of the team’s 14 points and also led in rebounds with eight. Kaycee Pittman was the only other Ram to score points, as she had four. Jennifer Robbins, Faith Jaimes-Diaz, and Sara Morlan all had two rebounds apiece.
The Mustangs came out fast, and after two quarters of play, the Rams went into halftime down 48-7. With their loss to PCM, the Rams remained winless through 16 games and were 0-11 in Heart of Iowa Conference play.
This week, the Rams were expected to face the Nevada Cubs on Tuesday and then the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union-ranked Roland-Story Norsemen on Friday.
The extended calendar has the Rams facing Saydel on Feb. 4 and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union-ranked West Marshall Trojans on Feb. 7.
