The Greene County Rams wrestling team saw success in what was a busy week on the mats.
The Rams opened up their week Jan. 16 at a triangular which featured host PCM and South Hamilton; the Rams were able to finish 1-1 in duals. The Rams lost a close one to PCM by a score of 40-36 and won over South Hamilton 58-12.
During their dual against PCM, Marcus Ball won via a 2-0 decision, Brennan Jacobs won via forfeit, Jaron Jacobs won via forfeit, Gavyn Winters won via forfeit, Crew Conner won via a 11-2 major decision, Brent Dennhardt won via a 16-0 technical fall and Degan Miller won via forfeit.
Against South Hamilton, Haiden Venteicher won via fall, Marcus Ball won via a 14-1 major decision, Brennan Jacobs won via forfeit, Jaron Jacobs won via fall, Gavyn Winters won via fall, Roman Sebourn won via forfeit, Crew Conner won via fall, Brent Dennhardt won via fall, Degan Miller won via forfeit and Nehemiah Howy won via forfeit.
In the last action of the week for the Rams they headed to Perry Jan. 18 for the Perry Boys Wrestling Invitational. Greene County placed sixth out of 15 teams with 127.5 points. West Delaware, Manchester took the team championship with 225.5 points.
Brennan Jacobs placed third at 106 pounds, Jaron Jacobs placed second at 113 pounds, Gavyn Winters Placed second at 120 pounds, Crew Conner placed fourth at 144 pounds, Brent Dennhardt placed third at 157 pounds, Degan Miller placed second at 165 pounds and Marcus Ball placed fourth at 215 pounds in what was a successful day on the mats for the Rams.
This season has seen multiple wrestlers enjoying enormous success. Kole Johnson is 4-0, Brennan Jacobs is 24-5, Jaron Jacobs is 24-7, Gavyn Winters is 23-5, Jacob Harmeyer is 8-6, Roman Sebourn is 9-7, Crew Conner is 20-10, Brent Dennhardt is 12-2, Degan Miller is 23-7 and Marcus Ball is 17-7. The Rams will be looking to continue this strong performances as the push to make it to the state tournament is right around the corner.
This week has just one date on the calendar but it’s a big one as it is a Heart of Iowa Conference Wrestling Tournament that will take place beginning at Roland-Story High School Friday, Jan. 24, starting at 5 pm.
