AI Artificial Intelligence
Today the focus is on the third AI, Artificial Intelligence. We have a vehicle that applies the brakes if we get too close to another vehicle. It resists going out of the current driving lane to pass. My phone does spell prophesying and frequently provides a word that is not wanted or, in the worst case, inappropriate.
ChatGPT is an example of AI but seems to function at an even higher level than an Internet search. AI is defined as “A language model based on GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer). ChatGPT can perform a variety of tasks such as answering questions, engaging in conversations, providing explanations, creating content and even more.
Before we get too in the weeds about Chat GPT, we must think about algorithms. I recall algorithms in algebra but could not allow implementation into my brain. Algorithm is defined as any step-by-step process that is completed the same way every time. A good example of this in everyday life is tying your shoes.
Algorithms are everywhere. They rule our lives. They decide what we see on social media, which ads get targeted to us, which route we should take to get places.
AI runs off algorithms, but not all AI algorithms are the same. They are developed with different goals and methods. So, when I searched for a black coat from Lands End via the internet, I suddenly received ads for black coats from Coldwater Creek, and Garnet Hill.
Our nephew is a physician, and his group is developing a CHAT program that takes a patient’s history and symptoms, and then compares those complaints and concerns with a database to aid in determining a diagnosis along with a treatment plan, all in an effort to streamline the physicians’ efficiencies, and to identify an accurate diagnosis.
I recently had a health insurance question and needed to talk with United Healthcare. The “voice” answering the phone was forthcoming in saying it was a CHAT person, and at any time I could request an agent. There were numerous questions – name, address, card number etc., and I really did not object to giving that information to the CHAT voice. When it was time to ask my question about coverage, I was taken into the CHAT’s circular messages, and I then had to request an agent.
Some of you may have Alexa or use Siri to help with questions such as directions, or the outside temperature, or to play a certain type of music. They are “unsupervised” and not generative types of AI. That means they are not collecting data that ChatGPT is gathering.
I recently participated in a ChatGPT class using my iPhone. It was titled FUN WITH ChatGPT. The instructor was very knowledgeable and admitted reviewing numerous YouTube videos to learn all the things that could be done with our phones via ChatGPT.
The most amazing example question and answer presented by the instructor to ChatGPT was, “I have eggs, cottage cheese, and a zucchini in my refrigerator. Please give me a recipe using these ingredients.” In about 3 seconds it popped onto her screen. The class further refined it by saying use ricotta rather than cottage cheese. Of course, almost instantaneous response.
One of the examples a more knowledgeable and experienced classmate shared was that she was planning a 50th wedding anniversary celebration. She asked ChatGPT for suggestions. Those were given. Then she further requested a grocery and supply list be made for the event. GIVEN!
ChatGPT and, in general, AI, make scamming easier and requires vigilance when on your phone or computer. Unless you are confident of the questionnaire’s source, be reluctant to provide any information. Stop playing those games about where you have been, what you have done, etc. It is only providing a wealth of data for AI collection.
If you want to experiment, go to openai.com and download it to your mobile device, laptop, or iPad. Have fun but be cautious.
I am forming a potential ChatGPT question. I have green eggs and ham. How can I prepare them? Will they be safe to eat?
