The Jefferson public library is launching a new creative writing club called “The Ink Society”, a supportive environment for anyone who is interested in developing or improving their writing skills and literary talents.
There will be separate adult and youth sections of the program and both will meet once month at the library.
The first meeting for the adults will be Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 6 to 7:30 pm. The youth group is for those in grades 9-12. Its first meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 9, from 6 to 7:30 pm. The two groups will meet together at the library one Saturday morning each month to share their work.
The Ink Society at Jefferson Public Library aims to be more than just a class; it is a safe space for writers of all levels to explore and enhance their storytelling abilities. The club will focus on nurturing creativity and providing constructive feedback, allowing participants to share their work without fear of judgment. Through regular workshops, members will engage in a variety of writing exercises and peer reviews designed to sharpen their skills and broaden their literary horizons. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a live reading event and a “published” collection of works during the Bell Tower Festival this summer.
Wendy Taylor of Jefferson will facilitate the new writing group. Taylor is a former community college instructor, previous submissions editor for a literary magazine, volunteer at the Sorcerer’s Apprentice Writer’s Camp for high schoolers in South Dakota, and is a published author. Taylor brings her experience and a passion for helping emerging writers discover their voices. “The Ink Society is an exciting initiative that brings together people who are passionate about storytelling,” says Taylor. “We are creating a community where creativity can thrive and new ideas are born.”
Interested individuals can sign up for this new creative writing club by calling the library at 515-386-2835 or visit the library website for more information. Enrollment is open to all community members, and anyone with an interest in writing is encouraged to join. Seating is limited. Participants should bring their preferred method of writing – pen and paper, tablet, laptop, or writing journal. The library computers will also be available for use.
