Greene County district court, week ending Dec. 13

In Greene County district court Abby Nichole Farrell, 21, of Carroll was sentenced Dec. 9 to 180 days in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and she was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She may complete the 48-hour Des Area Community College alcohol education program at her own expense in lieu of the jail time. She much complete a drinking drivers course. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommendations at her own expense. A judgment was entered for a $1,250 fine with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if she obtains a temporary restricted license. She must also pay $100 court costs and $38 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees. (Sentencing: Honorable James McCarville)

Shelby Marie McBride, 29, of Moville was sentenced to one year in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of theft- fourth degree. The jail time was suspended and she was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. If McBride ever serves the sentence, it will be concurrent to the sentence in a Story County felony case. She must pay $452.99 restitution to NAPA Auto Parts She was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. She must also pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $144.88 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Jerry Francis Fortmann, 58, of Lanesboro was sentenced to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense. All but seven days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete all recommendations. He must also complete a drinking driver’s school at his own expense. He may complete the DMACC 48-hour alcohol education program at his own expense in lieu of four days of the jail time. Fortman was fined $1,875 with a $281.25 surcharge. Court costs were $100. Persons pleaded not guilty to charges as follows: Jessie James Sanders, 22 of Scranton, willful injury causing serious injury and trespass causing injury or damage greater than $300; and Sawyer Michael Nelson, 20, of West Point, possession of pistol or revolver by person under age 21. Trial dates were set for Jan. 28 in both cases.

Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending Dec. 13 as follows: Roberto Carlos Martine Cortez, 21, of Des Moines, possession of marijuana; and Camden Strennen, 18 of Jefferson, possession of marijuana.
