Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Monday, Dec. 9: At 10:37 am the sheriff investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 10:55 am a deputy investigated a report of a mountain lion near 185th St and C Ave in Kendrick Township. At 1:59 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 200 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.
Sunday, Dec. 8: At 11:28 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 800 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 5:15 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal hunting on Hwy 30 near G Ave east of Scranton. At 6:33 pm a deputy assisted the DNR with an arrest in the 500 block of 195th St in Kendrick Township on Carroll County warrants. At 9:31 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near K Ave west of Jefferson. Ronald Fisher of Jefferson struck a deer with a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer, causing an estimated $4,000 in damage to the vehicle.
Saturday, Dec. 7: At 12 am Erick Ranker, 20, of Scranton was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and theft- fifth degree*. At 6:57 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident in the 2400 block of Hwy 4 in Franklin Township. David Block of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2020 Chevrolet Trax. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $9,000. At 8:06 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident in the 1400 block of Jordan Ave in Jackson Township. Christian Carter of Jefferson was driving a 2008 Ford Explorer when he struck the deer, causing an estimated $3,000 damage to the vehicle. At 4:26 pm a deputy assisted with a cow out on D Ave near 110th St in Cedar Township. At 10:02 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 100 block of Sunset Dr in Grand Junction. At 10:24 pm a deputy investigated a fight in the 800 block of Hwy 30 in Grand Junction.
Friday, Dec. 6: At 7:46 pm Tracy Straight, 50, of Ralston was booked into the jail on a charge of public intoxication*.
Thursday, Dec. 5: At 12:46 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 4:09 am a deputy and Scranton Fire responded to a re-kindle in the 1100 block of Cedar St in Scranton. The structure was a total loss. At 1:22 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on 310th St near C Ave in Willow Township. At 3:09 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1900 block of 130th St in Paton Township.
Wednesday, Dec. 4: At 5:33 am a deputy investigated a hit and run accident on Hwy 30 near 210th St in Kendrick Township. Antonio Moreno, 52, of Nebraska was stopped at stop sign on 210th St in a 2024 Dodge Ram pickup truck. The driver of a semi tractor-trailer side swiped Moreno’s truck, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage. The semi driver was not located. At 8:25 am deputies arrested a subject on Polk County charges of child neglect and child neglect causing death. At 11:13 am a deputy and Scranton Fire responded to a structure fire in the 1100 block of Cedar St in Scranton. The house had structural damage to one room and smoke damage throughout. The cause of the fire is undetermined. At 2:50 pm Scranton Fire responded to a rekindle of the fire on Cedar St. At 7:30 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 900 block of Irving St in Scranton.

Monday, Dec. 2: At 4:54 am a deputy and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single vehicle accident on Hwy 4 near 140th St in Dawson Township. Jay Barker, 63, of Coon Rapids lost control of a transport van, striking a tree. Barker sustained injuries and was taken by ambulance to Greene County Medical Center. At 5:16 am a deputy responded to a reported single vehicle rollover accident on 210th Street near Eaton Ave in Kendrick Township. While the deputy was en route a caller reported that they gotten the vehicle back on its tires and was leaving the scene. The Chevy S-10 pickup was not located. At 3:47 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 700 block of School St in Churdan. At 3:58 pm Desmond Collins, 33, of Fort Dodge was booked into the jail on a charge of violation of a no contact order*.
Sunday, Dec. 1: At 11:30 am a deputy investigated a domestic in Scranton. At 4:44 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 1800 block of Hwy 30 east of Jefferson.
*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
