The final touch was added earlier this month to the Rotary Centennial Dog Park – a metal sign fabricated and donated by Shane Olson of Olson Iron Works.
Other artistic elements have been added by art teacher Sarah Stott’s classes at Greene County High School.
The project began with a $50,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Jefferson to the City of Jefferson to mark the club’s centennial in 2022. The donation came from the proceeds of the annual charity dinner and auction held in previous Novembers.
During the summer of 2023, Rotarians assembled and installed agility toys and fire hydrants (not connected) in both the small dog and large dog areas of the park. During two Sunday work sessions Rotarians used 100 60-pound bags of Kwikrete.
Jefferson Rotarians Don Orris and Chris Durlam also poured concrete pads on which five benches are placed. The benches were also donated by the Rotary Club of Jefferson, with $1,864 in matching funds from a Rotary District 6000 grant. The bronze plaques on each bench were donated by Rotarian Steve Schwaller of Royal Jewelers. Pictured on one of the benches are Rotarians (seated, from left) John Gerken and Chris Durlam, and (standing, from left) Jon Law and Travis Dvorak.
The dog park was opened and dedicated along with the new Community Animal Shelter in September 2023. The animal shelter and dog park are located at 1700 Doreen Wilber Drive, southeast of Greene County High School.
