The Greene County Rams volleyball team took on a tournament this year in their last regular season action.
The Rams headed to Winterset Oct. 19 for their tournament that closed out regular season play and went 0-3 in matches on the day.
The Rams opened up against the Winterset Huskies, and although they had a good initial set, they could not get the win, falling 2-1 (27-25, 18-21, 5-15). The Rams then took on Webster City, falling 2-1 (15-21, 21-12, 9-15).
To close out their tournament, the Rams battled Red Oak, where they lost in two sets 2-0 (17-21, 10-21). While the day ended with no wins for the Rams, there was plenty of fight from this team, down to the very end.
“The scores may show that we fall short of terminating the point in the final moments, but it does not reflect our team’s heart and fight. Unfortunately, we did not come away with wins, but I commend our girls for staying in the fight to the very end,” head coach Chris Heisterkamp said.
This season has had its fair share of ups and downs, but the team remained focused and persevered through every challenge that was placed in front of them.
“This season has been one of growth, perseverance, bouncing back, and celebrations. This group consistently shows up ready to go; they roll with the ups and downs and have a determination to fight to the end. In our time-out huddles, our girls frequently express that they refuse to back down when things get tough,” Heisterkamp added. “Seeing the growth is the best part of the whole season. I’m very proud of how far this group of girls has come in working together as one on the court.”
The Rams were scheduled to open up their first round of postseason play on Tuesday against the Des Moines Christian Lions with the hopes of making a push.
