In Greene County district court Jose Otoniel Regalado Dubon, 43, of Humboldt was sentenced Oct. 16 to 10 years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of sex abuse- third degree. After completing the prison sentence he will be committed to the custody of the Iowa Department of Corrections for life. He was fined $1,370 with a $205.50 surcharge and a $90 Iowa domestic abuse assault surcharge. He must also pay a $260 civil penalty and $5,105.16 court costs. Joseph Allen Thomas, 45, of Bayard was sentenced to five years in prison on a charge of fraudulent submission of voter registration violation, and five years in prison on a charge of election misconduct. Thomas was found guilty in a jury trial June 19. Both prison terms were suspended; they will be concurrent if he serves them. He was placed on probation to the Department of Corrections for three years. Thomas was fined $1,025 with a $243.75 surcharge on each charge. Court costs were not listed. Breanna Dawn Mahers, 22, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. She will be on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year, and she must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She must pay a $430 civil penalty, $200 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees, and $156 court costs. Kristin Lee Johannesen, 34, of Mesa, AZ, was sentenced to one year in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. The jail term was suspended and she was placed on informal probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. Joseph Henry Charleston III, 54, of Manning was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of harassment- first degree. The prison term was suspended. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge, also suspended. He was sentenced to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. All but 30 days were suspended, and he was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for three years. Charleston was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge and a $90 domestic abuse surcharge. He must pay $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and 4324.61 court costs. Larry Donald Voss II, 50, of Fontanelle was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. All but two days of the jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must complete the Iowa domestic abuse program. All but two days of the jail term was suspended and he was placed on informal probation to the county sheriff for one year. He must complete the 48-hour OWI program in lieu of the jail term. Venteicher was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; the court found him unable to pay that, as well was restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs. Martin Lee Palmer, 55, of Jamaica was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must complete a drinking driver’s course. Palmer was fined $1,250 with a $187.5 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Trial dates were set for Dec. 12 in every case.
