With a bevy of matches over the span of a week, the Greene County Rams volleyball team found some success.
The Rams started out their week with a match against the Saydel Eagles, where they picked up a win 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-5). During the match against the Eagles, the Rams had a close first set, but pulled away in the second two sets, winning by a large margin in both.
The Rams closed out their week by hosting their tournament in Jefferson and went 2-2 in matches on the day. This included a win over the AC/GC Chargers 2-0 (21-16, 21-14) and the Carroll Tigers 2-0 (21-18, 21-19). The Rams then fell to Van Meter 2-0 (17-21, 19-21) and the Carlisle Wildcats 2-0 (18-21, 10-21). While they didn’t win the tournament, there was plenty of good during the day.
“We had a fantastic start to the day. The win over Carroll was especially exciting after fighting our way back from a huge deficit. I saw improvement in areas that we have focused on in recent practices. It’s good to see the continued progress,” Head Coach Chris Heisterkamp said.
The Rams have a shorter week now with only two matches, which will be a nice change for this team. Postseason volleyball is just around the corner, so the Rams will be looking to finish polishing off their rotations and playing well with their eye on state volleyball contention at the XtreamArena in Corallville. This team has proven they have the talent and determination to get them where they want to go. The Rams were scheduled to take on West Marshall on Monday and will look to close out their week against South Hamilton on Oct. 10. The match will begin at 6:30 p.m.
