Ace Hardware, Don & Bonnie Orris donate to Midwest Mission’s Bucket Brigade

Midwest Mission is hosting a Bucket Brigade, an evening of assembling disaster relief supplies into 5-gallon buckets, on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 3 to 7 pm.

This volunteer event comes after the devastating disaster season Iowa experienced this past spring and summer. Midwest Mission was able to respond by sending buckets of disaster relief supplies to three locations following the summer flooding, and to Greenfield, after the spring tornado.

The Bucket Brigade event will help build up Midwest Mission’s supply of disaster relief, so it is  prepared to respond to the next disaster, whether local or abroad.

Ace Hardware in Jefferson, in conjunction with local residents Don and Bonnie Orris, has made a generous donation of 50 buckets and lids to this event.

“That is a sizable donation,” Midwest Mission director of operations Brad Walton said. “We are thankful that Ace Hardware and the Orrises are stepping up to be a part of the disaster relief efforts. Those buckets aren’t cheap, and the less we have to spend on acquiring supplies, the more we can send out. The community is coming together to serve, a local business is supporting the initiative. You just don’t see that everywhere.”

The Bucket Brigade will be held at Midwest Mission in Jefferson and is open to the public. Persons can learn more and sign up to volunteer at midwestmission.org/bucket-brigade.
