Rams host cross-country invitational in Jefferson

The Greene County Rams hosted a cross-country invitational meet Sept. 13 at the Jefferson Municipal Golf Course. The Rams finished third in the boys race, with senior Noah Hinote, sophomore Brady Carstensen and junior Carter Hinote placing in the top 20 to receive medals.

“Noah Hinote  has consistently medaled and he had another strong performance. At this meet our 2-5 runners have shown improvement. Carter Hinote had his best time of the year and the emergence of Jayden Koller was a key to our success,” head coach Jeff Lamoureux said. “I’d like to thank all the volunteers who helped make our home meet a success.  We also appreciate the Jefferson Golf Course staff for their help. The golf course was in great condition and we certainly enjoy running there.”

The winning time for the 5K race was 17:06.42 set by senior Jude Benbow of Ogden.

Ram times and places were N. Hinote, 18:27.60, 6th; B. Carstensen, 18:49.86, 11th; C. Hinote, 19:11.26, 14th; Nick Black, 20:13.28, 23rd; Jayden Koller, 21:08.76, 36th; Eli Carstensen, 21:19.34, 39th; Kole Johnson-Peterson, 21:25.29, 42nd; Maddox Carstensen, 23:00.41, 56th; Tucker Ford, 25:03.53, 64th; and Dexter Ritter, 26:54.09, 72nd.

Team scores in the boys race were Ogden 29; Denison-Schleswig 77; Greene County 87; Southeast Valley 110; South Hardin 117; Perry 133; and Panorama 143.

For the first time this season, the girls had enough runners to score during the event, which netted them a sixth-place finish.

“This is huge for our program. It’s been awhile since we have had enough girls to score. This means that they are now not just running and competing for themselves, now they are running for their teammates,” Lamoureux said. “Rylee Mowrer continues to impress us. The leap she has made from her seventh grade season to now is quite remarkable. She is a hard worker with specific goals.  She has a very bright future. Even though she is just a freshman, she is running well each meet.”

Mowrer medaled with a time of 23:41.19, good for 9th place. Other Ram times were Evelyn Snyder, 26:29,41, 21st; Ava Jablonski, 28:14.47, 30th; Leah McCormick, 33:24.96, 40th; and Cora Powers, 36:00.99, 46th.

Panorama won with 49 team points. Other points were Denison-Schleswig 54; Perry 71; Ogden 92; Southeast Valley 117, and Greene County 119.
