Scranton group raising funds for Community Center

Friends of the Scranton Community Center are planning ahead. Before the roof on the Community Center over the gymnasium starts leaking, a committee of Scranton alumni and friends is hosting a fundraising evening on Saturday, Sept. 7, with money raised to be saved for roof repairs.

Doors to the Community Center will open at 5:30 pm. Dinner prepared by the Greene County Cattlemen, Pork and Lamb Producers will be served 6 – 7 pm. The meal will include Wally ribeye steak, smoked pork loin, smoked leg of lamb sandwiches, cheesy potatoes, corn, taco salad, pasta salad, fruit and drink. Ice cream will also be available for dessert.

Advance tickets can be purchased at Peoples Bank in Scranton and Jefferson; and  Home State Bank and Heartland Bank in Jefferson. Committee members also have tickets for sale: Randy Hedges, Doug Hawn, Peggy Hoyt, Jared Taggart and Jane Finch.

There are several games in the works including BINGO, Plinko and more. Prizes will be awarded with many gift cards donated for the cause. There’s a 50/50 raffle with the lucky winner collecting one-half of the money.

“We’re trying to get ahead of the game,” said Hawn. “We figure we’ll need  $75,000-plus and possibly more. It’s better to plan ahead than to be behind the eight ball.”
