The Greene County Rams volleyball teams’ regular season is upon them as they look to improve upon a promising season a year ago.

The regular season was scheduled to begin on Tuesday with the Mustang Varsity Volleyball Invite at Dallas Center- Grimes High School. This Rams squad is looking to improve on their 15-13 finish from a season ago, one that took them to the Class 3A Region 3 Quarterfinal, where they lost a close one to Van Meter 3-2 (25-23, 18-25, 29-27, 10-25, 8-15.)

This year, once again under the direction of head coach Chris Heisterkamp, the Rams will be looking to get back in the mix of teams vying to go to the state tournament. The Rams have been focusing on key aspects to help them get there this offseason.

“The major focus so far has been on having strong basic skills in passing and attacking, with better ball control, opening up a variety of attack options. Another emphasis has been on court vision, trying to see the opponent’s plan earlier and responding faster to be in better defensive position,” Heisterkamp said.

Seven of the 10 players on the roster are seniors, which gives this team plenty of leadership. Heisterkamp mentions that she wants those girls to bring their best and know that when they do, amazing things can happen.

The Rams volleyball team’s next regular season action is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3, beginning at 4:30 pm at Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll, as they continue to work on finding the best lineup for them and climb to the top of the Heart of Iowa Conference standings.
