The buildings have been prepared and teachers, staff and administrators are ready to greet students at Greene County Community School District for the first day of the 2024-25 school year on Friday, Aug. 23, for kindergarten through 12th grade, and Aug. 27 for preschool. Teachers went back to school last Friday, Aug. 16.
Summer provided time to complete projects in the district’s buildings. The elementary school received new carpeting in sections of the building, as well as the rafters and ceiling of the gym receiving a fresh coat of paint.
In the middle school, lighting was updated to LED in the southwest part of the building.
At Linduska Field, more than 40 ash trees were removed, with state of the art LED lights installed at the athletic field as well.
Additionally, the buildings received their standard treatment of deep cleaning, floor waxing, cleaning of the rooms, and replacing carpet where needed.
The DLR Group (a global, integrated design firm with a core practice in architecture, engineering, interiors, and planning) was hired to create a multi-year capital improvement project plan (also known as a Master Facilities Plan) within the district.
The district has also adopted a new cell phone policy, requiring students to store their phones in designated spaces during all class periods. Parents are asked to call the office with any messages students may need to receive during class time. Students will be allowed to use their phones between classes as well as during lunch and study hall. ~by Taylor Teays for The Scranton Journal
