Pickleball tournament to raise funds for scholarship

Pickleball enthusiasts, prepare your paddles!  The first “Pickleball for a Purpose” tournament is set for Saturday, Sept. 14 at 9 am at the Russell Park courts.

The tournament is open to men and women and proceeds from the entry fee of $20 per team go to help support local scholarships offered by P.E.O. Chapter CZ.  In case of rain, the play will be moved to the Greene County Community Center (GCCC).

To register, contact Jean Van Gilder at 515-370-1414 or get forms at the Greene County Community Center.  Advance registration is appreciated.

“We invite all levels of players to come and play at their level to support our local PEO scholarship. This is a fun tournament where we will have beginners on court 1 and court 2 will be dedicated to those who like a little more competition,” said Van Gilder.

Chapter CZ of P.E.O. offers a local scholarship to a woman whose education has been interrupted and who is working to further her education.

P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
