Jefferson city staff and council are launching TextMyGov, a new, smart text messaging service. Residents can receive important information such as road closures, water main breaks, emergency notifications and general information specific to the city of Jefferson via their mobile phone.
The city of Jefferson will officially launch the new text messaging system to the public on Monday, Aug. 26. Residents may receive a text message from 91896 from the city of Jefferson initiating the service. Residents can choose to opt-out at any time by texting STOP.
Residents who don’t receive the initial message can opt-in by texting the keyword “JEFFERSON IA” to 91896. After sending the initial keyword, residents will be asked to reply “YES” to confirm opt-in.
“We are excited about this new way of communicating with the residents of Jefferson and we look forward to sharing important city notifications and information,” said city finance officer Sarah Morlan, who is assisting with TextMyGov roll-out.
