Ram baseball team goes to 1-13

After two games were postponed last week, the Rams saw action on Monday and Friday, falling in both games, putting the team at a 1-13 overall record and 1-9 in Heart of Iowa Conference play. 

The Rams traveled to Nevada on Monday, June 17, falling 16-1 to the Cubs. The Rams scored their sole run in the first inning, Camden Jacobs credited with the point. There were four Greene County hits, all singles, one each off the bats of Gavyn Winters, Jacobs, Isaac Carman and Teagan Chisholm. 

On the defensive side of the game, the Rams saw 11 putouts and three errors on 21 total chances. Gavyn Winters and Jacobs split pitching duty, allowing 12 hits and six walks with two hit batters and one strikeout. 

Friday’s game was a road trip to Merchants Park in Carroll to face the Tigers with Greene County falling 8-4 after leading 2-0 in the first inning. The game was tied at four in the fourth, with the Rams falling behind when the Tigers had a big four-run inning in the fifth. 

The Rams were credited with 11 hits in the game, including a triple from Lane Fields and a double each from Carman and Crew Conner. Winters and Adam Bills each drew walks, and eight Rams struck out. 

Greene County saw 19 putouts and three errors on 29 total chances. Conner and Chisholm were on the mound. The duo allowed 10 hits, walked three and fanned another three. 

The Rams will Play in Perry on Wednesday, then Rams travel to West Marshall High School on Thursday, June 27. Next week, the team will host Glidden-Ralston on Monday, July 1. Postseason play will begin soon, with 3A brackets yet to be announced.
