Veterans outreach event will feature the Brown Family’s Americana and patriotic salute concert

The musical group, The Brown Family from LeMars, will perform an Americana Music and Patriotic Salute Sunday, July 7, at 2 pm at the Greene County High School auditorium. Attendees should park in the south parking lot and the enter through the south doors. Doors open at 1:30 pm.

The Greene County veterans office is providing free admission to veterans and their families. The public is also invited to attend with a free will offering to the Brushy Creek Honor Flight for Greene County veterans. A representative will be present to accept these donations.

The Browns have been touring across the United States for the past 22 years. Beginning at the local and state level, they now tour nationally and internationally. They have received the prestigious honor of Top 10 Mixed Group of the Year and have been awarded the Top Horizon Group of the Year.

The group has just finished their newest recording, “Brave” as a ShowTown Recording artist, with Dove Award winning producer Wayne Haun. The Browns’ newest radio single, “Take Me Back,” is climbing the national charts.

In 2015 the family bought and restored a 100-year-old historic building into a state-of-the-art live music theater in their hometown of LeMars. They have since added more buildings to the Browns Hospitality Group including a gift shop, event center buffet experience, and bed and breakfast. Thousands of tourists and Brown music lovers travel to LeMars every year. Their singing exposure ranges from over 30 shows at the Americana Theatre in Branson, Mo, to the Dollywood Theme Park stages, and includes more than 10 Royal Carnival cruise ships. This award-winning musical group will inspire you with their close-knit family harmony and talent.

How is this famous group able to perform in Jefferson?  Iowa counties receive a $10,000 allocation grant appropriated from the general fund of the State to the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs. These funds must be used for operational expenses of county VA offices, outreach events and training.  The Greene County veterans affairs director and the Greene County veterans commission select one large event annually, considered an outreach event, to inform the county veterans of the most recent changes in their VA benefits.

Outreach events in the past have included a veterans benefit outreach event with numerous Des Moines VA offices present and an end-of-life outreach event, both at the county fairgrounds, a Gold Star Museum tour at Camp Dodge, a veterans’ holiday meal, and now the Browns patriotic music show. Smaller outreach events have been used such as movies at the Sierra Theater and talks at the high school auditorium. There are approximately 700 veterans in Greene County. “We hope for a large turnout of veterans to hear about the most updated benefits available to them,” local veterans affairs director Mike Bierl said. “The brief benefit presentation will be at the end of the show.

“We also desire the public to experience this rare opportunity to hear the music that most people need to travel distances to hear. We are bringing it to the veterans and to the public. Please invite your families and friends and make this a memory for yourselves.”
