The Greene County baseball team found their way to their first win of the season last week, topping South Hamilton, ahead of falling to Roland-Story, sitting at a 1-11 overall season record, 1-8 in Heart of Iowa Conference play.
The Rams hosted South Hamilton on Monday, June 10, taking the 12-4 win after an explosive fourth inning where the Rams scored 10 runs, putting them up 12-1. Though they didn’t score again, they held the Hawks to two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, keeping a very comfortable lead.
The Rams banged out 14 hits in the game with 13 being singles, and a double knocked by Crew Conner. Isaac Carman led in hits for the night with three singles. Gavyn Winters and Bryce Stephenson drew walks, with Camden Jacobs walking twice and advancing after being hit by a pitch. There were four strikeouts by the Rams.
On the field, the Rams saw 21 putouts and no errors on 30 total chances. Noah Hinote took pitching duty for the night, allowing six hits with three walks, four hit batters and five strikeouts.
Wednesday’s game was a different tune for the boys, falling 9-0 to the now 12-8 Roland-Story Norsemen. Roland-Story scored two in the top of the first, second and fifth innings with three runs scored in the sixth. The Rams saw just two hits, a single from Winters and a double from Conner. Lane Fields reached on an error and eight Rams struck out.
On the field, the team committed five errors, but had 21 putouts on 32 total chances. Conner, Jacobs and Teagan Chisholm split pitching duty with the trio allowing eight hits with seven walks, one hit batter and three strikeouts.
The Rams play at West Marshall on Wednesday. The team will play in Carroll on Friday. Next Monday, June 24, the Rams will host Saydel, with Southeast Valley coming to play on Tuesday, June 25. Greene County will visit Perry on Wednesday, June 26.
