Routine business in May for Scranton city council

The bulk of the business conducted by the Scranton city council during its May 14 meeting was routine, with summer projects under consideration.

Ken Paton and Scott Weber discussed Greene County Development Corp during open forum. They are working with a program that helps with housing and new business development. They encouraged the city of Scranton to attend their meetings.

Chad Kirk gave the public works update. He explained the employees have been mowing city properties and will be mowing private properties that have not been mowed. A new filter media is needed and should be placed in the next budget. Root killer has been applied in the sewer lines along Main St, from High to Ninth Sts. Some storm drains have been jetted and cleaned.

Kirk presented the blacktop bid for street repair. It was approved. Muir Tree Service will be making bids on more trees that need to be removed.

Cindy Boyd reported three picnic tables have been donated and will be distributed where they are needed. The gazebo is being readied for painting. New trash cans and playground equipment will be installed.

Miscellaneous items resolved included: the seat belt resolution, Middendorf bid, sewer rate resolution, med pass for fire fighters and tobacco permit for Casey’s.

Councilman Gale Zellweger pointed out the thistle nuisance that needs to be handled.
