Amazing views are on the horizon for the upper story apartments of the Centennial Block Building. Two one-bedroom apartments filled with light will soon be under construction, according to the Why Not Us (WNU), LLC board of directors.
Westbrooke Construction of Urbandale, which submitted the low bid, was approved by the board at its May 28 meeting. Westbrooke was also the contractor for the renovation of The Centennial Restaurant and exterior of the building. Kevin Conway and Ian Conway, a father and son team and owners of Westbrooke, will begin work this summer to complete the apartments.
Architect for the project is Pete Franks of Franks Design Group of Glenwood. The WNU project team will review the architect’s plans soon to make decisions on the apartments’ interiors.
Karla Janning with Region XII Council of Governments in Carroll is the administrator of the federally funded Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) that WNU received towards the project.
“We are really looking forward to the completion of this part of the project and launching the Centennial Block Building, built in 1876, into its next 100 years as a cornerstone of the Jefferson courthouse square,“ said Peg Raney, Why Not Us board president.
