Sheriff’s report

Following are excerpts of daily activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Thursday, May 30: At 10:15 am a deputy took a report of missing/lost property at Spring Lake Park. At 1:23 pm a deputy was advised of a vehicle fire in the 200 block of Main St in Scranton. At 2:20 pm a deputy was advised of suspicious activity in the 500 block of N Ave in Dawson Township. The deputy responded and made contact with two individuals. The deputy arrested Joy Durham, 48 of Fort Dodge and Jesse Edwards, 41, of Fort Dodge on charges of burglary- third degree*. At 4:38 pm deputies were advised of a single-vehicle accident in the 1600 block of 255th St in Grant Township. The juvenile driver was operating a 1999 Mazda B3000 pickup. The vehicle is a total loss.

Wednesday, May 29: At 7:20 am a deputy investigated a violation of a no contact order in the 1600 block of Newberry Ave in Grant Township.

Tuesday, May 28: At 6:52 pm a deputy investigated suspicious activity in the 200 block of W. Percival St in Rippey. At 7:15 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1800 block of 283rd St in Washington Township. At 9:32 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 265th St near Quaker Ave in Grant Township. Peter Bardole, 57, of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, causing an estimated $4,000 damage to the vehicle.

Saturday, May 25: At 8:16 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 800 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 10:19 am a deputy investigated a complaint of an airplane having engine troubles near Farlin. At 10:21 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of I Ave in Highland Township. At 9:02 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 900 block of 230th St.

Friday, May 24: At 12:50 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 144 near 150th east of Paton. David Hauber, 19, of Ames struck a deer with a 2015 Chevrolet Express Van. Estimated damage to the van is $4,000. At 5:15 am the sheriff removed storm debris from the roadway on W Avenue near 250th St in Junction Township. At 5:36 am the sheriff and a deputy replaced the construction stop lights that were blown over on 130th Street near V Ave in Paton Township. At 5:45 am the sheriff assisted the Boone County sheriff’s office with a tree across the roadway in the 100 block of 130th St in Boone County.

Thursday, May 23: At 12:12 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping on 185th Street near U Ave in Junction Township. At 3:28 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1500 block of 320th St in Franklin Township. At 3:40 pm a deputy conducted a traffic stop on 190th St near J Ave in Bristol Township. Kenneth Bonnette, 37, of Scranton was arrested for operating without an interlock device, fraudulent use of registration, driving while under suspension, and no financial liability*. At 8:24 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 200 block of Lawrence St in Dana.

Wednesday, May 22: At 1:52 am a deputy assisted the Dallas County sheriff’s office with attempting to find a vehicle that was involved in a domestic assault. At 5:01 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 200 block of S. 7th St in Grand Junction. At 7:31 pm a deputy assisted the city of Grand Junction with traffic control near an open manhole on 14th St near Elizabeth St.

Tuesday, May 21: At 10:53 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton. At 4:10 pm the sheriff and a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1900 block of 210th St in Junction Township. At 8:40 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 200 block of Lawrence St in Dana.

Monday, May 20: At 10:29 am a deputy investigated a report of a injured coyote near 140th Street and N Ave in Dawson Township. At 10:40 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large on Main St in Paton. At 11:40 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a vicious dog in Paton. At 4:17 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of fraud in the 400 block of 140th St in Cedar Township. At 5 pm the sheriff and a deputy investigated a report of a chemical spill on Hwy 141 near 195th north of Grand Junction. At 5:04 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 100 block of W. Percival St in Rippey. At 6:40 pm a deputy assisted the Webster County sheriff’s office with trying to locate a runaway in the 1000 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 8:09 pm a deputy assisted with goats out on S Ave near 195th St in Hardin Township.

Sunday, May 19: At 3:10 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of manure on the roadway on County Rd P-46 near 250th St in Junction Township. At 3:23 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large on Main St near State St in Scranton. At 5:26 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 9 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 1900 block of R Ave in Franklin Township. James Timmons, 44, of Jefferson was arrested for domestic abuse assault*.

Saturday, May 18: At 4:39 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with responding to a domestic assault in the 200 block of E. Perry St in Jefferson.  At 7:14 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 800 block of Percival Street, Grand Junction. At 10:48 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 800 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 11:59 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 200 block of S. 19th St in Grand Junction. At 12:29 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 500 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 7:58 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 1900 block of 210th St in Junction Township. At 11:39 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault  in the 800 block of Jay St in Churdan.

Friday, May 17: At 11:53 am a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton. At 7:42 pm a deputy assisted with an unruly patient at Greene County Medical Center. At 9:08 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 600 block of Harding St in Churdan.

Thursday, May 16: At 7:45 am a deputy investigated a complaint of an impaired person at the bus stop in Scranton. At 5:59 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest in the 200 block of West Lincoln Way, Jefferson. At 9:23 pm a deputy assisted with an unruly child in the 100 block of W. Percival St in Rippey.

Wednesday, May 15: At 2:02 am a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 400 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 11:11 am a deputy assisted a motorist who had children locked in a car in the 500 block of S. Wise St in Paton. At 1:09 pm a deputy attempted to locate a reported sick animal in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton.

Tuesday, May 14: At 2:09 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 400 block of 110th St in Cedar Township. At 7:36 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of kids on dirt bikes riding around Churdan. At 7:42 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 500 block of Jay St in Churdan. At 10:59 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction.

Monday, May 13: At 7:54 am a deputy investigated a report of a raccoon being mutilated on the bike trail near 320th St in Franklin Township. At 4:14 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. At 8:39 pm a deputy investigated a reported fire near Hwy 30 Street and Oakland Ave east of Jefferson. The fire was an unreported controlled burn.

Sunday, May 12: At 12:10 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 700 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 3:04 pm a deputy assisted the Carroll County sheriff’s office in responding to a two-vehicle head-on collision on 330th St near A Ave. At 5:10 pm a deputy assisted with traffic control in the 800 block of 100th St for a controlled burn.

Saturday, May 11: At 12:04 pm a deputy investigated a  complaint of illegal dumping in the 800 block of 2nd St in Grand Junction. At 12:15 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on U Ave and 150th St southeast of Rippey. Larry Teeples, 82, of Jefferson was operating a 2019 Ford 150 pickup truck when he struck a railroad crossing arm that was down. Damage to the truck was estimated at $2,000. Damage to the crossing arm was estimated at $500. The crossing arms were malfunctioning at the time of the accident. At 2:01 pm a deputy investigated a fire in the 600 block of X Ave in Paton Township. The fire was an unreported controlled burn.

Friday, May 10: At 6:58 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on J Ave near 200th St in Bristol Township.

Thursday, May 9: At 5:10 am a deputy investigated an abandoned vehicle on 240th St near Kendrick Ave west of Jefferson. At 4:53 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 400 block of U Ave in Paton Township.

Wednesday, May 8: At 7:11 am a deputy investigated suspicious activity in the 1500 block of 300th St in Franklin Township. At 12:51 pm a deputy conducted a traffic stop on N. Oak St at W. Clark St in Jefferson. Suspected controlled substances and suspected prescription medications were located. Charges are pending lab results. At 1:52 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton.

Tuesday, May 7: At 6:09 am a deputy investigated a concern of a sick deer in the 600 block of S. 12th St in Grand Junction. At 5:58 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 300 block of 7th St in Grand Junction.

Monday, May 6: At 9:46 am a deputy investigated a driving complaint on S Ave near 140th St. Nicolas Balderas-Rodriquez, 61, of Jefferson was arrested for operating while under the influence*. At 4:42 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a vicious dog in the 600 block of Jefferson St in Scranton. A pitbull mix was picked up and taken to impound.

Saturday, May 4: At 3:32 pm a deputy arrested Joseph Charleston, 53, of Scranton for harassment- first degree and domestic abuse assault*. At 5:15 pm a deputy assisted the Boone County sheriff’s office with attempting to locate a vehicle that was involved in a hit and run accident.

Friday, May 3: At 7:57 am a deputy investigated a complaint of poaching in the 500 block of 195th Lane in Kendrick Township. At 3:16 pm a deputy arrested Wayne Royer, 43, of Scranton for a probation violation, animal neglect with injury, operating while intoxicated, and a sex offender registration violation. At 8:13 pm a deputy investigated a fire on 225th St and C Ave in Scranton Township. At 9:09 pm a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 4 near 210th St north of Jefferson. Martel Lucatero-Avena, 32, of Nebraska was arrested for driving while license denied*.

Thursday, May 2: At 10 am the sheriff recovered a firearm stolen from Taylor County. At 11:24 am a deputy assisted the Carroll County sheriff’s office with trying to locate a truck that was involved in a theft in Carroll.

Wednesday, May 1: At 10:57 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction. Leeroy Steadman, 54, of Grand Junction was arrested on an arrest warrant for assault.* At 4:46 pm a deputy investigated a driving complaint on N. Elm St in Jefferson. Nicolas Balderas, 61, of Jefferson was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence*. At 5:03 pm a deputy assisted with a cow out on 235th St near Quint Ave east of Jefferson.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
