144 CHI opens demolition application process

Applications are now available for Clearing, the second phase of the 144 Corridor Housing Initiative (144 CHI). The first phase of the organization, Exterior Improvement, is now in its second year. Future plans call for a third phase, Building.

Applications for the Phase 2 demolition grants are available at Peoples Bank in Grand Junction and at the libraries in Paton, Rippey and Grand Junction.

Property owners in Dana, Paton, Rippey and Grand Junction are eligible to apply to remove unsightly and dilapidated buildings. Applicants will need to provide a description of the project, timeline, and a demolition plan, including a bid from a contractor who will complete the project. The grants are competitive, so additional supporting information about the project is encouraged.

Purpose of the demolition grants is to increase property value and improve the general attractiveness of the four 144 CHI communities. Special consideration will also be given to applicants utilizing local suppliers and contractors for their demolition project.

Funds are available for up to 100 percent of project costs with a maximum amount of $40,000. Funding for the demolition project is from a grant awarded to 144 CHI earlier this year by Grow Greene County.

Funds will be awarded after completion of the project. Application deadline is July 15, 2024. Demolition work must be completed by Nov. 30, 2024. Applicants must then request their payment by Dec. 10, 2024.
