The Greene County boys had a 1-1 week after beating Logan-Magnolia 9-0 on April 22 before a tough 3-2 overtime fall to Perry the next day.
“Solid Ram win,” coach Carl Behne said about Monday’s win over the Panthers. Greene County scored four goals in the first half and five in the second.
“Defense played very well and midfield owned the match with the back line from a possession stand point. We had many chances to end the match with 10 goals,” added Behne.
Nathan Behne led the team in goals made, getting five in the net, also credited with two assists. Goalie Gabe Ebersole had two saves in the game, allowing no goals against the Rams. Greene County saw 40 shots with 24 on the goal.
Team stats: Assists 7; Goals 9; Shots 41; Shots on goal 24; Corner kicks 9; Saves 2.
On Tuesday, the Rams hosted Perry, falling 3-2 in overtime after trailing 0-2 at halftime. Coach Behne described the game as a “tale of two halves.”
“We played out of sync with guys just coming back and we played soft, allowing them to push us around in the first half,” explained Behne. “Got pushed around and didn’t have the fire to push back. We dominated the second half and had a couple of great chances late to win, just couldn’t find the right last touch and they had a nice goal to end it. Not much you can do but win in regular time.”
“Some great saves by Gabe. He came up huge again for us with a penalty kick save and a ton of other ones,” added Coach Behne.
Team stats: Assists 2; Goals 2; Shots 11; Shots on goal 7; Corner kicks 3; Saves 16.
