A highlight of the annual Jefferson Matters Community Appreciation Event is the recognition of the ABC award (Above and Beyond the Call) recipient. Since 1977 exemplary local volunteers have been honored for their efforts to improve the community in countless ways.
In the past the announcement of the recipient was made for the first time at the event itself, making it a surprise. This year, the ABC winner was notified in advance when past recipients went to her home to share the good news. The goal with the early notification was to allow for more people to attend who may want to celebrate the winner at the event, as well as allow the winner to prepare some thoughts ahead of time for sharing on stage.
The 2024 ABC recipient is Debra McGinn. Since the beginning of the Main Street program, McGinn has been involved in a number of committees and roles, most notably, the Tower View Team and Ring out for Art. She also serves on the board of directors as secretary. She is also a Why Not Us unit holder and serving as the board of directors secretary. A complete review of her many contributions to the betterment of Jefferson will be shared at the Community Appreciation Event on Sunday, April 21, at 2 pm at the Greene County High School auditorium
Aside from the ABC celebration, Emily Dyer, Kelley Gray, Emily Rohner and Dan Rohner will be recognized in the 2024 class of Forces Under Forty. There will also be a brief presentation about the Jefferson Matters highlights from 2023 and a look at head at 2024. All are welcome to attend. There will be a desert reception following the awards and informational presentation.
