The Iowa Department of Natural Resources plans to conduct prescribed burns this spring in Greene, Guthrie and Dallas Counties on wildlife areas managed by the IDNR Saylorville Wildlife Unit.
Areas that are scheduled are Bays Branch Wildlife Area, McCord Pond Wildlife Area, Springbrook Wildlife Area, Middle Raccoon River Wildlife Area, Sheeder Prairie, Beaver Lake, Snake Creek Wildlife Area and Dunbar Slough Wildlife Area.
Prescribed burns will normally be conducted during the months of March, April and May. Prescribed burns are used to improve wildlife habitat, control invasive plant species, restore and maintain native plant communities and reduce wildfire potential. Burns will be conducted on days that meet specific objectives and weather parameters as defined in each wildlife area’s specific burn plan.
Persons who have any questions or concerns can contact DNR wildlife biologist Dean Nelson at 641-755-2313.
