Ram girls end one-win hoops season

The Greene County girls basketball team ended its season last week in Class 3A regional action, finishing the season 1-21 overall and 1-13 in conference play, finishing last in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.

On Feb. 5, the team traveled to Southeast Valley High School, falling 61-29 to the Jaguars after trailing throughout the game. Emma Shipley and Makenna Ebersole scored 11 points each, with Kaycee Pittman leading in rebounds and assists with nine and three. 

Team stats: FG 12/45; 3PT 3/13; Effective field goal percentage 30%; FT 2/9; Rebounds 25; Assists 9; Steals 6; Blocks 2; Turnovers 20; Fouls 8. 

The Rams traveled to Perry the next day, falling 45-29 in the second matchup of the week. Scoring only nine points in the first half of the game, shooting woes led to the Rams fall. The girls made nine of 61 attempted field goal shots and six of 12 free throws. 

Shipley was the scoring leader and the only Ram to break double digit scoring, putting 12 points on the board. Payton Kokenge and Ebersole grabbed nine rebounds each.

In the Rams’ final game of the season, they traveled to Cherokee Washington High School to face the 14-7 Braves in the 3A – Region 7 game, falling 75-29. The Rams managed to score 10 points in the first half of the game, but that was no match for the Braves’ 49 points. Again, shooting troubles were no help for the Rams, who made 13 of 35 attempted field goal shots and one of three free throws. The Braves forced 27 turnovers from the Rams.

Ebersole led the team in points with 12 and boards, credited with five. Pittman scored six points and had three assists, with Shipley putting five points on the board with three rebounds and one assist.
