Gavyn Winters, Gavin Scheuermann, Brent Dennhardt and Degan Miller advanced to the Class 2A state wrestling meet after the team took on districts last Saturday, placing third as a team. The Rams wrestled on Tuesday at Woodward-Granger ahead of the district meet.
Those advancing to state will compete in the tournament at Wells Far Feb. 14-17 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. 2A first round will start Feb. 14 at 9 am. Quarterfinals are set for Feb. 15 at 9 am, semifinals are Feb. 16 at 9 am, and semifinals and finals will happen Feb. 17 at 9 am.
Scheuermann, a senior, competes at 157 pounds while Dennhardt, a junior, is 165 pounds. They received a bye in the opening round based on their seeding. Scheuermann has achieved a 28-3 record on the mat this season. Dennhart has gone 39-3.
Winters, a junior with a 24-8 record, opens against Mack Morgan, Eagle Grove senior at 30-12. Miller is a freshman competing at 175 with a 31-15 record. He will take on Brock Voyna, Crestwood junior, at 15-4.

On Feb. 6, the Rams wrestled Webster City and Woodward-Granger, falling by just one point to Webster City and taking a near sweep against Woodward-Granger with only two Rams falling in the dual.

District meet – On Saturday, the Rams traveled to Atlantic for the district meet. To advance, wrestlers must place in the top two spots of their weight class. Scheuermann at 157 and Dennhardt at 165 each took first in their classes. Winters at 120 and Miller at 175 brought home second place finishes.
