In Greene County district court Dakota Andrew Amos, 27, of Des Moines was sentenced Jan. 24 to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of child endangerment, amended from child endangerment- registered sex offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for three years to the Iowa Department of Corrections. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. Amos was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of sex offender registration violation. The sentences are consecutive. The second sentence was also suspended. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. A charge of sex offender residency violation was dismissed. Amos must pay $116.890 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Persons pleaded not guilty as follows: James Leon Cunningham, 49, of Jefferson, possession of controlled substance- third or subsequent offense, and in a separate case, possession of weapon in correctional institution. A trial date was set for March 5 in the drug charge, and for Feb. 19 in the weapon charge.
Information is available since the return of arrest warrants that David Allan Holley, 54, of Scranton has been charged with possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense; and Larissa Marie Beaty, 41, of Ankeny, possession of methamphetamine and driving while license barred.
A case against Conrado Jaimes Diaz, 17, of Jefferson in which he was charged with assault with intent to inflict serious injury and assault causing bodily injury or mental illness was waived from juvenile court to district court.
Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending Jan. 26 as follows: Carlos Ricardo Gonzales, 48, of Dayton, driving while license barred; and Noel Matthew Bartusek, 30, of Des Moines, operating while intoxicated- third offense.
