Richard (Dick) G Davis, 87, of Grimes, formerly of Jefferson, died December 21, 2023.
Services will be held Dec. 27 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson. Interment will be at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Jefferson, with military honors. A rosary service and Elks Rest Ceremony will be held Dec. 26 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home, Jefferson.
Richard was the son of Rose Mary Gibbons Davis and Raymond C. Davis. Dick was born on January 30, 1936 at, St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1955.
Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and spent three years serving his country. After his discharge, Dick went to work for the United States Post office where he was employed for 35 years.
On June 4, 1960, he married Janet A. Scharfenkamp of Carroll. To this marriage two sons were born, Thomas Richard and Timothy William.
In his free time, Dick enjoyed travel, being with friends and family and attending sporting events, especially Iowa State University football and basketball games. Dick was a very caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Janet; sons Tom (Paula) of Grimes and Tim (Gina) of Prosper, TX; grandchildren Teresa (Andy) Pope of Ankeny and Christina of Montreal, Canada; great-grandchildren Colton and Madelyn; sister Mary Rae Bragg; and brother Ronald (Hank) Davis. Dick is preceded in death by his parents.
