In Greene County district court Nicholas John Parris, 40, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. A judgment was entered for a $1,250 civil penalty. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for two years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He must also complete a community college drinking drivers school. Parris was also granted a deferred judgment on a charge of possess/carry dangerous weapon while under influence. Larry Allen Simms, 61, of Carroll was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of burglary- third degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for three years. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. Simms was sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of theft- second degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for two years. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. Should Simms ever serve the prison terms, they are consecutive. A charge of theft- second degree was dismissed. Jay D. Wenger, 35, of Beaver was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred (case initiated 7/13/23). All but 33 days of the sentence was suspended, but the 33 days are consecutive to jail time on a charge in another Greene County case in which Wenger was charged with operating while intoxicated. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. Wenger was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs.
In a case initiated 9/21/23, Wenger was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to charges of operating while under the influence of a controlled substance and child endangerment. All but two days of the jail time was suspended, with those two days consecutive to the time in the July case. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must complete a drinking drivers course. While under probation to Boone/Greene County Probation Wenger must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Wenger was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. The charge of child endangerment was dismissed. Court costs were $166.94.

Chad Thomas Logan, 53, of Grand Junction was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault, amended from assault while displaying dangerous weapon. Jonathan O’Neil Jones, 36, of Cypress, TX, was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of theft- second degree. He was sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of burglary- third degree (motor vehicle), with the prison terms consecutive. The prison terms were suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for three years. He was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge on the theft charge, and $855 with a $128.25 surcharge on the burglary charge. A charge of theft- fifth degree was dismissed. A trial date was set for March 5 for Lawrence and Jan. 30 for all other defendants.
A case was initiated against Joseph Allen Thomas, 45, of Bayard on a charge of election misconduct- first degree (two counts).
