Two butterfly sculptures that are much larger than life size will soon adorn the new Imagination Alley on the square in Jefferson thanks to a $2,000 donation by the Jefferson Garden Club.
Hilde DeBruyne of Cumming is the designer of the latest additions to the unique and engaging alley design. DeBruyne’s sculptural art has been installed all over the United States and has also been featured in Jefferson’s Ring Out for Art contest.
The Garden Club could choose from several different butterflies and members chose the purple and gold ones to coordinate with colors of the Imagination Alley mural on which the sculptures will be located.
DeBruyne said the process of creating the butterfly art takes months from designing them to cutting, welding, powder coat painting and installing. The installation will actually occur at a later date by a contractor working at Art on the Fly next door to the alley.
To raise funds for community beautification, a mission of the Garden Club, the organization hosts biennial holiday Tours of Homes as fundraisers. The next event will be Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024. “We are grateful for the support of the events by home hosts and attendees,” said Garden Club president Shelly Berger. “It’s a fun day that helps launch the holiday season and really gets people in the holiday spirit.”
The proceeds are used for projects such as the butterflies as well as the upkeep of Memorial Garden on Lincoln Way across from the Milwaukee Depot where art panels were installed several years ago.
