In Greene County district court Colton Bishop, 38, of Des Moines was sentenced Nov. 27 to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense. All but seven days was suspended and he was given credit for time served in Polk County while awaiting transfer to Greene County. He was placed on probation to Greene/Boone County Probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Bishop was fined $1,875 with a $281.25 surcharge. A charge of driving while license revoked was dismissed. Court costs were $301.82. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
John Ryan Smith, 36, of Paton was sentenced Nov. 28 to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of OWI- first offense. All but two days of the jail sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation to Greene/Boone Greene County Probation for one year. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Smith was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Christian Miles Long, 22, of Missouri City, TX, burglary- third degree motor vehicle and theft- second degree; Najee Lanaye Harrell, 24, of Indianapolis, IN, burglary- third degree motor vehicle and theft- second degree; Conner Laine Groves, OWI and child endangerment (two counts); Reyna Y. Quintanilla, 51, of Perry, OWI- second offense; Dillon Lee Schriever, 22, of Greene, OWI- third offense, Alysha Nicole Steece, 45, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault display or use dangerous weapon, willful injury causing bodily injury, and criminal mischief- first degree. Trial dates were set for Jan. 30 for all defendants except Steece and Long. Steece’s trial date was set for March 4; Long’s trial date was set for March 5.
Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Sean Christian Schlueter, 28, of Clarinda is charged with OWI; and that Jonathan O’Neil Jones, 36, of Cypress TX, is charged with burglary- third degree motor vehicle, theft- second degree, and ongoing criminal conduct- influence enterprise.
A case was initiated against Madison Meyers, 20, of Jefferson, charged with OWI.
